Kavala Caves
The Kavala Caves are located within the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka. These natural limestone caves are believed to have been formed due to volcanic activity and have been in existence since prehistoric times.
The caves are known for their narrow passages and small dimensions, with some areas requiring visitors to crawl through.
One of the main attractions of the Kavala Caves is the Shivalinga formed naturally within the cave. To reach the Shivalinga, visitors need to climb down 375 steps and crawl through a narrow, dark passage. The Shivalinga is about 4 feet high and has a diameter of approximately 3-4 feet.
There is also an udder-shaped stone above the Shivalinga from which water trickles continuously.
