Kenilworth Fort in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, was built between 1857 and 1861 by William Brett, the then British collector of Salem, at the request of his fiancée who wished for a residence resembling the Kenilworth Castle in England.
Designed to mirror the English castle's architecture, it is possibly the only fort in India built to resemble a British castle. The fort, sometimes called Brett's Castle or Brett's Folly, was constructed as a grand residence with features like stained glass windows and a lofty tower, set over the moat of the older Hosur fort. Although William Brett never lived in the castle due to the shifting of the collectorate to Salem, the fort served as a residence for British sub-collectors until 1935.
Over time, the building was abandoned, sold, and largely demolished, leaving only ruins today but still stands as a unique symbol of colonial-era architecture and personal ambition in southern India.
