Khandar Fort, located in the Khandar Tehsil of Sawai Madhopur district in Rajasthan, is an ancient and historically significant fort near the boundary of Ranthambore National Park. Built by Kshatriya Badgujar rulers and later ruled by Sisodia kings of Mewar, Mughals, and the Maharajas of Jaipur, it is perched on a strategic vertical hill making it nearly invincible in battles.
The fort features three main entrances, several damaged walls revealing its war-torn past, and seven notable temples including a Jain temple with intricately carved idols, a Hanuman temple with a unique stone idol, and a grand Rani Temple on the highest platform. It also houses two large water tanks, Ramkunda and Laxmankunda, along with smaller ponds.
The fort was considered a security post of Ranthambore and is famed for its strategic defense and the undefeated legacy of its rulers. Visitors can reach it about 40 km from Sawai Madhopur city, with no entry fee required, and the best time to visit is between October and March.
