Kiang Nangbah Monument
The Kiang Nangbah Monument is a historical monument located in the West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, near Jowai. It was built in honor of U Kiang Nangbah, a Jaintia freedom fighter who led an uprising against the British in the 19th century. He was publicly hanged by the British on December 30, 1862, at Iawmusiang in Jowai.
The monument stands in the center of a vast field known as Madiah Kmai Blai, which is on the banks of the Syntu Ksiar river. This field holds historical significance as it was the place where U Kiang Nangbah took an oath to fight for the freedom of his land.
The monument is a hollow tower-like structure of typical Jaintia design, and it serves as a tribute to his bravery and sacrifice.
