Kichakeswari Temple
The Kichakeswari Temple is a historic Hindu temple located in Khiching, Mayurbhanj district, Odisha. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kichakeswari, a form of Chamunda or Kali, and is one of the most significant temples in the region. Built between 920-926 A.D., the temple showcases the brilliant Kalinga architecture and is made from black chlorite stone.
The temple stands at a height of 100 feet and features intricate carvings and sculptures, including depictions of nayakas, naga-nagin, Ganesha, Kirtimukha, and other divine figures. Inside the temple, there is a large ten-armed fearsome skeletal image of Chamunda-Kali, which is a striking and unique representation.
The temple complex also houses an archaeological museum, which was built in 1922 by Maharaja Purna Chandra Bhanjdeo. The museum contains several images of gods and goddesses, including some dating back to the 7th or 8th century. The museum is the second oldest in the state of Odisha.
