Kishtwar National Park

Kishtwar National Park is located about 40 kilometers from Kishtwar town in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, covering an area of approximately 2,190.50 square kilometers. It lies in the rugged terrain of the Great Himalayas with altitudes ranging from 1,700 to 4,800 meters above sea level.

The park is bounded by the Rinnay River to the north, Kibar Nala catchment to the south, the main divide of the Great Himalayas to the east, and the Marwah River to the west. It features steep ridges, narrow valleys, and rocky mountain slopes primarily composed of granite, gneiss, and schist. The park supports diverse wildlife including the endangered Hangul or Kashmir stag, musk deer, Himalayan brown and black bears, and leopards. It is also home to over 50 bird species such as the Himalayan snowcock and paradise flycatcher.

The area experiences moderate rainfall, with snowfall in winter months making it snowbound at times. The park's tough terrain and rich biodiversity make it a significant conservation area in the Himalayas, with the best visiting seasons from September to May.
