The cemetery is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and is the final resting place for 1,420 Commonwealth burials from World War II. The cemetery is located on Garrison Hill, where some of the fiercest fighting of the Burma Campaign took place. The site includes a memorial to an additional 917 Hindu and Sikh soldiers who were cremated according to their faith.
