Koilvar bridge
Koilwar Bridge, also known as Abdul Bari Bridge, is a historic rail-cum-road bridge located in Koilwar, Bhojpur, Bihar. It spans the Sone River and connects the city of Arrah with Patna, the capital of Bihar. The bridge was constructed by the East Indian Railway Company and became operational on November 4, 1862. It is the oldest operational railway bridge in India and was the longest river bridge in the Indian subcontinent until 1900.
In addition to the historic Koilwar Bridge, there is also the New Koilwar Bridge, officially named Vashishtha Narayan Setu. This 1.52 km long, 6-lane wide road bridge was constructed to alleviate traffic congestion on the older bridge. The New Koilwar Bridge was inaugurated on December 10, 2020, and fully opened to the public on May 14, 2022.
