Tourist Attraction
Kolia Bhomora Setu
Kolia Bhomora Setu is a significant bridge in Assam, spanning the Brahmaputra River and connecting Tezpur in Sonitpur district to Kaliabor in Nagaon district. Completed in 1987, the bridge is a 3.015-kilometer-long pre-stressed concrete structure on National Highway 715.
It is named after the Ahom General Kolia Bhomora Phukan, who had originally envisioned a bridge over the Brahmaputra during the reign of Kamaleswar Singha. The bridge was inaugurated by then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and has since played a crucial role in facilitating transportation and trade in the region.
In 2021, a new parallel bridge, the Bhomoraguri-Tezpur Bridge, was opened to further enhance connectivity. Kolia Bhomora Setu is not only an engineering marvel but also a scenic spot, offering breathtaking views of the river, especially during sunrise and sunset.
