Koundinya Wildlife Sanctuary in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, is the only elephant reserve in the state, established in December 1990. It covers an area of 357.6 square kilometers and is home to Asian elephants, which migrated to the region after 200 years.
The sanctuary features rugged terrain with high hills and deep valleys, interspersed with dry deciduous forests and thorny scrubs. The Kaigal and Kaundinya Rivers flow through the sanctuary, supporting a diverse ecosystem.
Apart from elephants, the sanctuary hosts panthers, sloth bears, wild boars, chowsinghas, nilgais, hyenas, jackals, and various bird species. The Kalyan Revu and Kaigal Waterfalls, located within the sanctuary, add to its scenic beauty.
