Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the Rajsamand district of Rajasthan, covering an area of about 610 square kilometers across parts of Rajsamand, Udaipur, and Pali districts. The sanctuary surrounds the historic Kumbhalgarh Fort and spans four hill ranges of the Aravalli: Kumbhalgarh, Sadri, Desuri, and Bokhada.
The terrain ranges in elevation from 500 to 1,300 meters and is characterized by dry deciduous forests with sandy loam soils. This sanctuary is home to a variety of wildlife including leopards, Indian wolves, sloth bears, striped hyenas, golden jackals, jungle cats, sambhar deer, nilgai, four-horned antelope (chausingha), chinkara, and hares. Birdlife is rich with species such as the grey junglefowl, peacocks, red spur owls, parakeets, golden orioles, and white-breasted kingfishers.
The sanctuary offers multiple ways to explore its natural beauty, including jeep safaris, trekking, and horse riding along routes passing through forested hills and near waterholes. The best time to visit is from March to December when the weather is pleasant, and forest rest houses are available for accommodation.
