Lake Tsomgo

Lake Tsomgo, also known as Changu Lake, is a breathtaking glacial lake situated in East Sikkim, approximately 40 kilometers from Gangtok. Perched at an altitude of 3,753 meters, the lake is revered by the local Sikkimese people and holds immense cultural and religious significance.

During the winter months, the lake remains frozen, creating a mesmerizing landscape surrounded by snow-clad mountains. As the seasons change, the lake reflects different hues, adding to its mystical charm. The name "Tsomgo" is derived from the Sikkimese language, where "Tso" means lake and "Mgo" means head, signifying the source of the lake.

The area around the lake is adorned with alpine vegetation, including rhododendrons, primulas, and poppies, which bloom in vibrant colors during the summer months. The lake is also home to various species of birds, including Brahminy ducks, and wildlife such as the elusive red panda.
