Lloyd's Botanical Garden
Lloyd's Botanical Garden in Darjeeling, West Bengal, was established in 1878 when 40 acres of land were given by William Lloyd to form a botanical garden as an annex of the Calcutta Botanical Garden. Situated on a hill slope just below the Eden Sanatorium, the garden spans about 40 acres and houses an impressive collection of rare and exotic plants from the Himalayan region and beyond.
It features over 2,500 orchids, around 50 varieties of orchids, a wide array of medicinal plants, cacti, and succulents, as well as trees like oak, eucalyptus, magnolia, and rhododendrons. The garden also has two living fossil trees brought from China, including the prehistoric Ginkgo biloba. It serves as a center for botanical research and education and is a popular attraction for nature lovers and tourists. Visitors can enjoy peaceful walks amidst colorful flowers, lush greenery, and striking landscapes with views of the surrounding hills.
