The Maa Bolla Kali Temple, also known as the Sree Bolla Raksha Kali Temple, is located in the village of Bolla, near Balurghat in Dakshin Dinajpur (South Dinajpur), West Bengal. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali and is known for its rich history and cultural significance.
According to local legend, a Zamindar who owned the land around the temple was imprisoned by the British for failing to pay his taxes. The Zamindar was a devout follower of Maa Kali and prayed to her for his release.
Miraculously, Maa Kali heard his prayers and freed him from jail on a Friday after the full moon of Rash month. Grateful for his release, the Zamindar built the temple in honor of Maa Kali and started worshipping her regularly.
The temple is open 24 hours, and devotees can visit at any time to offer their prayers. The main Kali Puja is held on each Friday after the day of Rash Purnima, attracting a large number of devotees from different parts of the South Dinajpur district. A three-day fair is also organized by the Puja committee during this time.
