Nestled atop the Dewangiri Hill near Baihata Chariali, about 40 kilometers from Guwahati, the temple complex dates back to the 9th to 12th centuries and is attributed to the Pala dynasty of Kamarupa.
The site is steeped in mythology—legend holds that this is where Kamdev, the Hindu god of love, was reborn after being incinerated by Lord Shiva’s wrath, and reunited with his consort Rati.
