Malhargad, also known as Sonori Fort, is a hill fort located near the village of Sonori, about 30 kilometers from Pune, Maharashtra. Built between 1757 and 1760 by Peshwa Sardar Krishnaji Madhavrao Panse, who managed the artillery of the Peshwas, it was the last fort constructed by the Marathas.
The fort is named after the god Malhari and was strategically built to keep watch on Dive Ghat along the Pune-Saswad route. Malhargad sits on a triangular hill in the Bhuleshwar range of the Sahyadri mountains and features tall stone ramparts, a square-shaped fortress within the fort, remnants of a palace, wells, water tanks, and two temples dedicated to Lord Mahadev and Lord Khandoba.
The fort is well preserved and offers panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys, including the city of Jejuri and Parvati Hills. It is popular for trekking and quick trips due to its accessibility and natural beauty, with no entry fee for visitors.
