Mamostong Kangri, also known as K35, is the highest peak in the remote Rimo Muztagh subrange of the Karakoram range in Ladakh, India. Standing at about 7,516 meters (24,659 feet), it ranks as the 48th-highest independent peak in the world.
Located roughly 30 km east-southeast of the Siachen Glacier's snout, the mountain is surrounded by several glaciers including the South Chong Kumdan, Kichik Kumdan, Mamostong, and South Terong Glaciers. Due to its remote position, challenging terrain, and political sensitivities in the region, Mamostong Kangri sees few visitors.
The first successful ascent was in 1984 by an Indo-Japanese expedition. The peak is named from a local term meaning "fog" and "thousand," referencing its frequent misty cover and the tragic fate of a group of traders in the area. Its imposing presence and difficult access make it a symbol of natural grandeur and adventure in Ladakh.
