Man Singh Observatory
The Man Singh Observatory, also known as the Man Mandir Observatory, is a historic astronomical observatory located on the Man Mandir Ghat (also known as Someshwar Ghat) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. It was constructed in 1710 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the King of Jaipur, and is one of the five existing observatories in India.
The observatory is a fine example of Rajput and Mughal architectural styles and features several astronomical instruments, including the Samrat Yantra, Narivalaya Dakshinay Yantra, Chakra Yantra, Digamsa Yantra, and Dakshinobhitti Yantra.
These instruments were used for measuring time, determining the positions of celestial bodies, and preparing lunar and solar calendars.
