The Marine Wildlife Sanctuary in Jamnagar, Gujarat, also known as Marine National Park and Sanctuary, was established in 1980 and is India's first marine national park. Located along the inter-tidal zone of the Jamnagar coast in the Gulf of Kutch, it covers around 458 square kilometers, including 42 tropical islands.
The sanctuary boasts diverse habitats such as coral reefs, mangroves, mudflats, creeks, estuaries, sandy beaches, and rocky shores, supporting a rich variety of marine life including colorful sponges, corals, sea turtles, dolphins, dugongs, starfish, octopus, and many fish species. It is also a haven for over 80 bird species like flamingos, pelicans, and seagulls. The mangrove forests play a vital role in maintaining the ecosystem and protecting the shoreline.
The best time to visit is from October to February when low tides expose intertidal zones, enabling visitors to explore marine biodiversity through guided walks and boat rides.
