Marsar Lake
Marsar Lake is an oligotrophic alpine lake located in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, near the Aru valley in Pahalgam. It sits at an elevation of around 3,800 meters and is separated from the nearby Tarsar Lake by a mountain with a peak height of about 4,000 meters.
Because of their proximity and similar features, Marsar and Tarsar Lakes are often called "twin sisters." Marsar Lake is known for its scenic beauty with blue waters often shrouded by clouds and surrounded by rocky terrain and snow-capped peaks. A stream flows from Marsar Lake through the Dachigam valley, eventually joining the Telbal Nallah, which is the primary water source for Dal Lake in Srinagar.
The lake is a popular destination for trekking, especially during summer, and is associated with local folklore that adds a mysterious aura to it. The Tarsar-Marsar trek is highly favored by tourists for its breathtaking natural landscapes and serene environment.
