Miskhal Mosque
The Mishkal Mosque, also known as Mithqal Mosque, is a medieval mosque located in Kuttichira, Kozhikode, Kerala. Built in the 14th century by an Arab merchant named Nakhooda Mishkal, this mosque is one of the few surviving medieval mosques in Kerala.
The mosque showcases a blend of traditional Islamic design and intricate temple architecture, featuring elegant wooden carvings, Mihrab-style doors, and a beautifully crafted wooden Mimbar.
Despite being partially damaged during a Portuguese attack in 1510, the mosque was later restored under the supervision of the Zamorin, a Hindu king, symbolizing communal harmony and resilience.
The mosque has four stories, with 47 doors, 24 carved pillars, and a spacious prayer hall that can accommodate around 300 worshippers. The surrounding Kuttichira area is rich in heritage, with other historical mosques like the Jama Palli and Muchundi Palli nearby.
