The Mysore Sand Sculpture Museum, located on Chamundi Hill Road in Mysuru, Karnataka, is a unique attraction that showcases the art of sand sculpting. This museum, the first of its kind in India, was conceptualized and created by MN Gowri, a renowned sand sculptor. The museum features around 150 sand sculptures spread over an area of 13,500 square feet, crafted from more than 115 truckloads of sand.
Visitors to the museum can admire intricate sculptures depicting various themes such as Mysore heritage, wildlife, cultural stories, religious epics, and fairy tales.
Notable sculptures include a 15-foot statue of Lord Ganesha at the entrance, Goddess Chamundeshwari, King Srikanta Datta Narasimharaja Wadiyar on his throne, Lord Krishna and Arjuna in a chariot, and scenes from ancient Egypt and Disneyland. The sculptures are made using a mixture of sand, water, and a small amount of glue, and are protected from the elements to ensure they last up to a year.
