The National Institute of Technology Meghalaya (NIT Meghalaya), located in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, is an autonomous public engineering institute established in 2010 under the NIT Act as one of India's 31 NITs and recognized as an Institute of National Importance.
It currently operates from a temporary campus at Bijni Complex in Laitumkhrah, Shillong, while its permanent 300+ acre state-of-the-art campus at Saitsohpen in Sohra (Cherrapunjee)—nestled amid ecologically rich hills 55 km from Shillong—became fully functional by 2024 with modern academic buildings, boys' and girls' hostels, faculty residences, auditorium, health center, indoor stadium, and research facilities.
NIT Meghalaya offers undergraduate BTech programs in computer science, electronics, electrical, mechanical, civil engineering, postgraduate MTech, MSc in physics/chemistry/mathematics, and PhD across engineering and sciences via JEE Main, GATE, and CCMN, focusing on excellence in technical education, research, and innovation in a serene Himalayan setting.
Funded by the Ministry of Education, it fosters a vibrant academic environment despite remote challenges, aiming to become a center of excellence.
