Nizamia Observatory
The Nizamia Observatory is a historic optical observatory located in Punjagutta, Hyderabad, Telangana. It was established in 1901 by Nawab Zafar Jung Bahadur, a member of the House of Paigah and an amateur astronomer. The observatory was later taken over by the Nizam's government in 1908 and became part of Osmania University in 1968.
The observatory boasts impressive telescopes, including an 8-inch Cooke Astrograph and a 15-inch Grubb Refractor telescope. It played a significant role in the Carte du Ciel project, making 463,542 observations. The observatory was later relocated to Rangapur village due to light pollution in the city.
