Obavvana Kindi
Obavvana Kindi is a historical site located within the Chitradurga Fort in Karnataka. It is named after Onake Obavva, a legendary woman warrior who defended the fort single-handedly against the forces of Hyder Ali in the 18th century. The term "kindi" means "hole" in Kannada, and it refers to the small crevice through which Hyder Ali's soldiers attempted to infiltrate the fort.
Onake Obavva, while collecting water from a nearby pond, noticed enemy soldiers sneaking into the fort through this hole. Using her quick thinking and a pestle (onake), she single-handedly fought off the soldiers, killing them one by one without raising an alarm. Her bravery and heroism are celebrated in Karnataka, and she is considered an epitome of Kannada female pride.
