Pashan Devi Temple

Pashan Devi Temple in Nainital, Uttarakhand, is a revered shrine nestled on the slopes near the iconic Naini Lake. Dedicated to a stone form of Goddess Durga, the temple is entirely constructed of stone, and the deity herself is worshipped in a naturally formed stone idol.

The name “Pashan” means stone, and the temple is believed to be one of the oldest in the region, drawing devotees who seek blessings for speech-related ailments and skin conditions. A sacred flame, or Akhand Jyoti, has been burning here continuously since the temple’s inception, symbolizing eternal devotion.

The temple is especially significant during Navratri, when pilgrims come to offer water, sindoor, and clothes to the goddess. The water offered at the shrine is said to flow down to Naini Lake after touching the feet of the deity, adding a mystical connection between the temple and the lake. Devotees believe that this water possesses healing properties, particularly for skin diseases and speech impediments like stammering.

The temple also features nine stone pindis representing the Nav Durga, allowing worshippers to pay homage to all nine forms of the goddess in one place.
