Peechi-Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary, established in 1958, is located in the Thrissur district of Kerala and covers an area of about 125 square kilometers. It lies in the catchment areas of the Peechi and Vazhani dams and is part of the Palapilli-Nelliampathy forest region, bordering the Chimmini Wildlife Sanctuary.
The sanctuary features tropical evergreen, semi-evergreen, and moist deciduous forests, with altitudes ranging from 100 to 914 meters, the highest point being Ponmudi. It is home to over 39 species of mammals including tigers, leopards, elephants, and gaur, plus 176 species of birds, 30 reptiles, 17 amphibians, and 40 fish species.
The sanctuary offers activities like wildlife safaris, bird watching, trekking, nature walks, and boating on the Peechi and Vazhani dams, making it a favorite destination for nature and wildlife enthusiasts.
