According to local lore, Ka Phan Nonglait assisted U Tirot Sing, a prominent leader of the Khasi Hills, in an ambush against the British soldiers. During the ambush, she cleverly provided the British soldiers with refreshments while her comrades hid nearby.
When the soldiers were resting and off-guard, she seized their weapons and hid them under a rock at the waterfall, allowing U Tirot Sing's men to capture the British soldiers easily. The falls are believed to still have the weapons hidden beneath the rock, making it a place of historical intrigue and reverence.
