The Pilak Historical Palace, also known as Shyam Sundar Ashram, is an archaeological site located in the Santirbazar sub-division of South Tripura, Tripura. This site is a treasure trove of history, showcasing the coexistence of Hinduism and Buddhism from the 8th to 12th centuries.
It features a variety of artifacts, including terracotta plaques, rock-cut sculptures, and brick stupas, which reflect the artistic styles of the Pala and Gupta dynasties as well as influences from Arakan (Myanmar).
The site is spread across several locations, such as Shyam Sundar Tilla, Deb Bari, and Thakurani Tilla, and is under the care of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The artifacts unearthed here include images of Hindu deities like Shiva, Surya, and Vaishnavi, as well as Buddhist figures from the Hinayana, Mahayana, and Vajrayana traditions.
