The Pithoragarh Fort, also known as Gorkha Killa or London Fort, is a historic fort located in the town of Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand, India. The fort was built during the Chand period by the regional ruler Peeru Alias Prithwi Gusain.
According to some records, it was later constructed by the Gorkhas in 1789 after they invaded the town. The fort is situated on a hill on the outskirts of Pithoragarh and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
It covers an area of 1300 square meters and stands at an altitude of 1650 meters. The fort's walls are about 7-8 feet high and 88.5 meters long, with more than 150 holes for shooting bullets in case of an attack.
After the Treaty of Sugholi in 1815, the British renamed the fort as London Fort from Baulaki Fort. The fort was used as a tehsil office for over 130 years before falling into a dilapidated condition. Post-independence, the fort was renovated by the government and established as a tourist destination.
