Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary
Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary, located about 15 km from Medak and 115 km from Hyderabad, Telangana, spans over 130 square kilometers and was established in the early 20th century. Named after the Pocharam Lake, formed by damming the Allair River, it was formerly a hunting ground for the Nizam of Hyderabad.
The sanctuary features dry deciduous forests and scrublands, supporting diverse wildlife including wild dogs, leopards, wolves, jackals, sloth bears, sambar deer, nilgai, chinkara, chital, and four-horned antelopes.
It is also a haven for numerous bird species like Brahminy ducks, bar-headed geese, and open-billed storks. The sanctuary provides eco-tourism opportunities with facilities like a nature trail, watchtower, and boating on the lake, making it an ideal destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers, particularly from October to May.
