Prabalgad
Prabalgad, also known as Muranjan or Pradhangad, is a historic hill fort located between Matheran and Panvel in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. It stands at about 2,300 feet in the Western Ghats and was originally built by the Bahmani Sultanate to monitor nearby forts in the North Konkan region.
The fort has changed hands several times, coming under the control of the Ahmadnagar Sultanate, Mughals, and eventually being conquered by Shivaji Maharaj in 1657, who renamed it Prabalgad. Known for its strategic location and strong resistance in battle, the fort features ruins, a Ganesh temple, and offers panoramic views of surrounding peaks, including the adjacent steep Kalavantin pinnacle.
Today, Prabalgad is a popular trekking destination and a scenic getaway known for its natural beauty and historical significance.
