Quila Rai Pithora, also known as Lal Kot, is a historical fort located in New Delhi, Delhi. It was originally built by the Tomar Rajput ruler Anangpal Tomar in the 11th century and later expanded by the Chauhan king Prithviraj Chauhan, also known as Rai Pithora. The fort is considered the first city of Delhi and played a significant role in the medieval history of India.
The fort's walls, made of thick layers of rubble and mortar, were designed to provide protection from external threats. The remains of the fort walls are scattered across South Delhi, visible in areas like Saket, Mehrauli, Sanjay Van, Kishangarh, and Vasant Kunj. The fort also includes a statue of Prithviraj Chauhan and a library with books related to him.
