Roha Fort

Roha Fort in Kachchh, Gujarat, is a historic fort built in the 16th century and located on a hill about 50 km from Bhuj. Established around 1550 CE by the ruler Khengarji Jadeja I, it originally governed 52 villages and was an important stronghold of the region. The fort, also called Roha Sumari Fort, spreads over 16 acres and sits about 250-300 meters above sea level.

Architecturally, it resembles a temple with stone and baked brick construction, featuring temples inside, including one dedicated to Radha-Krishna that is still active. Though parts of it lie in ruins due to earthquakes and time, it remains rich in history and nature, with peacocks and birds inhabiting the area.

Famous Gujarati poet Kalapi composed many poems inspired by the fort's tranquil surroundings. The fort was under British control in the 18th century, during which some renovations were made, such as deep wells inside. Its ruins and serene setting offer a glimpse into the grandeur and culture of old Kutch. Roha Fort is a significant cultural and historical landmark that reflects the heritage of the Kachchh region.
