Rupi Bhaba Wildlife Sanctuary

The Rupi Bhaba Wildlife Sanctuary is nestled in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, on the left bank of the Satluj River. This sanctuary is a haven for nature enthusiasts, offering a diverse range of flora and fauna.

The sanctuary spans an area of 269 square kilometers and is surrounded by the Great Himalayan National Park and Pin Valley National Park. The sanctuary boasts lush green forests, with vegetation ranging from lower western Himalayan temperate forests to alpine pastures.

Among the notable wildlife species found here are the musk deer, Himalayan black bear, Himalayan tahr, brown bear, snow leopard, and blue sheep. Birdwatchers can also spot a variety of avian species, including the yellow-billed chough, nutcracker, black-throated jay, and western tragopan.

Visitors to the sanctuary can explore its undulating terrain on foot, as the road network is limited. The best time to visit is from April to June and September to October, when the weather is pleasant. The sanctuary is accessible via National Highway 22, with the nearest airport and railway station located in Shimla.
