Saddam Beach
Saddam Beach is a fishing village located in the Malappuram district of Kerala, stretching over a two-kilometer coastal belt between Puthenkadapuram and Kettungal in Parappanangadi. The village was originally called Tipu Sultan Beach after the Mysore king who resisted British colonial forces.
After the 1991 Gulf War, villagers renamed it Saddam Beach to express solidarity with former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein, admiring his stance against Western powers. The community is predominantly Muslim, and local culture includes traditional folk arts like Duff Muttu and Kolkali. The beach village has witnessed anti-American and anti-British sentiments, demonstrated by boycotts and protests following the Gulf War and Saddam Hussein’s execution.
It is accessible via Parappanangadi town, with the nearest airport at Kozhikode and well-connected roads. The climate is tropical, with the best visiting time between December and February for pleasant weather.
