Saf Minal

Saf Minal is a prominent peak in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, standing at an elevation of 6,911 meters (22,674 feet). It is the 21st highest peak located entirely within Uttarakhand and falls on the edge of the Northern Nanda Devi National Park.

The peak is surrounded by glaciers, including the Uttari Rishi Glacier to the south and the Bagini Glacier to the north. The rivers originating from these glaciers eventually merge with the Dhauli Ganga and Alaknanda rivers, contributing to the Ganga river system.

The first successful ascent of Saf Minal was achieved on October 2, 1975, by J. Imai and A. Hagiwara from Japan, who climbed the southeast ridge. Another notable ascent was made on October 5, 2004, by an American-British team, Ian Parnel and John Varco, who climbed the northwest face of the peak.

Saf Minal is a challenging climb, requiring technical skills and experience in high-altitude mountaineering. The peak offers stunning views of the surrounding Himalayan landscape, making it a coveted destination for climbers. The best time to attempt the climb is during the summer months when the weather is more stable and favorable for high-altitude expeditions.
