Salimgarh Fort, located near the Yamuna River in Delhi, is a historic fortress built in 1546 AD by Salim Shah Suri, the son of Sher Shah Suri. The fort played a significant role in Delhi's history, serving as a military stronghold and later as a prison during the Mughal and British periods.
Emperor Aurangzeb converted it into a prison, a practice continued by the British after they took control in 1857. The fort is now part of the Red Fort Complex, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007.
