Saser Kangri III

Saser Kangri III is a majestic peak located in the eastern Karakoram range within the Leh district of Ladakh, India. It reaches an elevation of about 7,495 meters (24,590 feet), making it one of the five major summits in the Saser Kangri massif, which also includes Saser Kangri I, II, and IV. The name "Saser Kangri" translates roughly to "Yellow Snow Mountain" in the local Ladakhi language, reflective of its distinctive appearance.

This peak lies among rugged terrain and glaciers such as the Sakang Lungpa and others feeding into the Shyok and Nubra rivers. It is known for its extreme remoteness and challenging climbing conditions, attracting experienced mountaineers. The first successful ascent of Saser Kangri III was accomplished in 1986 by an Indian team from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police.

Despite the harsh high-altitude environment, the region around Saser Kangri III supports a unique biodiversity including species like snow leopards, Himalayan brown bears, and ibex, highlighting both its ecological significance and adventurous allure. The peak stands as a symbol of Ladakh’s dramatic mountainous landscape and is part of one of the highest and most technically difficult mountain groups in India.
