Shri Koodal Azhagar Temple, located in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, is an ancient and revered Vaishnavite temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is one of the 108 Divya Desams, the sacred abodes of Vishnu, glorified in the Naalayira Divya Prabandham, the Tamil canon of the Alvar saints from the 6th–9th centuries CE.
The temple enshrines Lord Vishnu in three postures—sitting (asana), standing (sthanaka), and reclining (sayana)—all within a single vertical plane. The five-tiered Raja Gopuram serves as the gateway, and the temple is enclosed by a granite wall. The main deity, Koodal Azhagar, is worshipped alongside Goddess Madhuravalli, his consort.
The temple is believed to have been originally built by the Pandyas, with later additions by the Vijayanagara Empire and Madurai Nayak kings during the 16th century.
