The Shri Nartiang Durga Temple is a 600-year-old temple located in the West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, near Nartiang village. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, making it one of the holiest sites for devotees of the Shaktism sect of Hinduism. The temple is believed to be the permanent abode of Goddess Durga, and it draws a large number of pilgrims, especially during Durga Puja.
The temple has a unique blend of Hindu and ancient Khasi traditions. During Durga Puja, the local chieftain or Syiem sacrifices goats, and a banana plant is dressed up and worshipped as the Goddess. At the end of the festivities, the plant is ceremoniously immersed in the Myntdu River.
