Sita Mata Wildlife Sanctuary

Sita Mata Wildlife Sanctuary in Chittorgarh and Pratapgarh districts of Rajasthan spans about 423 square kilometers, covering undulating terrain shaped by the Aravalli, Vindhyachal, and Malwa Plateau ranges. It is notable as the only forest region in Rajasthan with a majority of high-value teak trees alongside diverse flora such as bamboo, mahua, tendu, neem, and various medicinal plants.

The sanctuary supports rich biodiversity with mammals including flying squirrels, four-horned antelope, spotted deer, leopard, caracal, wild boar, pangolin, sloth bear, and striped hyena, as well as over 130 species of resident and migratory birds. The flying squirrel stands out as a unique sight, particularly around sunset in the Arampura forest area. The sanctuary has cultural and mythological significance linked to the goddess Sita, with sites like a Sita Samadhi temple and Valmiki ashram within its bounds. Rivers, streams, waterfalls, and dense forests create a serene natural environment ideal for trekking, birdwatching, and nature observation.

Human presence and nearby villages pose some challenges, but the sanctuary remains a vital and well-preserved forest and wildlife area in southern Rajasthan. It offers a combination of ecological richness, cultural heritage, and scenic beauty for visitors and nature enthusiasts.
