Sri Sri Ugratara Devalaya, also known as Ugratara Temple, is a significant Shakti shrine located in the Uzan Bazaar area of Guwahati, Kamrup Metropolitan district, Assam. Constructed in 1725 by King Shiva Singh of the Ahom Kingdom, the temple is dedicated to Goddess Ugratara, considered to be an incarnation of Parvati.
The temple is one of the most important pilgrimage centers in Assam and is associated with various legends and myths.
According to one legend, the temple was built on the spot where the navel of Goddess Sati fell after she immolated herself. Another legend connects the temple to Buddhism, with Goddess Ugratara being identified with Tiksna-Kanta and Eka-Jata of the Buddhist pantheon.
The temple is also known for its association with the Jor Pukhuri tank, located to the east of the temple.
