Tamor Pingla Wildlife Sanctuary

Tamor Pingla Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh and was declared a sanctuary in 1978. It spans approximately 608.55 square kilometers and is named after the prominent geographic features Tamor Hill and Pingla Nalla within its boundaries.

The sanctuary is part of the Surguja Jashpur Elephant Reserve and is notable for its mixed deciduous forests dominated by sal and bamboo trees. It is home to a wide variety of wildlife including Asian elephants, Bengal tigers, Indian leopards, sloth bears, sambar deer, nilgai, chital, bison, chinkara, wild boars, wolves, jackals, hyenas, and diverse bird species like red and brown jungle fowl.

Tamor Pingla became part of the combined Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve in 2022, which is one of the largest tiger reserves in India and a critical habitat for Bengal tigers. The sanctuary's terrain includes dense forests, hills, and rivers, providing a rich natural environment for conservation efforts and supporting biodiversity.

Although it is a relatively lesser-known sanctuary with limited tourist facilities, it remains an important stronghold for threatened species and a key component of wildlife conservation in central India.
