Tawi Wildlife Sanctuary, located about 101 kilometers from Aizawl in Lunglei district of Mizoram, covers an area of approximately 35.75 square kilometers with altitudes ranging from 400 to 1,300 meters above sea level. Established in 1978, it is one of Mizoram's oldest wildlife sanctuaries, featuring tropical evergreen and semi-evergreen forests. The sanctuary is home to diverse flora such as canes, bamboos, Michelia champaca, Duabanga, Schima wallichia, and Gmelina arborea.
Its rich fauna includes tigers, leopards, sambar deer, barking deer, jungle cats, serows, hoolock gibbons, rhesus macaques, and various bird species like kalij pheasants, jungle fowls, common partridges, and hill mynas. The sanctuary also offers basic accommodation facilities at the Hualtu Range headquarters for visitors. It is a prized destination for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts seeking to experience the natural beauty and biodiversity of Mizoram.
