The Kanpur Memorial Church
The Kanpur Memorial Church, originally known as the All Souls' Church, is a historic church located in Kanpur Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. Built in 1875, the church was constructed to honor the British soldiers who lost their lives during the Siege of Cawnpore in 1857. The church is designed in the Lombardic Gothic style by Walter Granville, an architect of the East Bengal Railway.
The church is made of vibrant red bricks adorned with multi-colored hues and features intricate carvings and monuments that pay tribute to the fallen soldiers. Inside, you'll find memorial tables, epitaphs, and heartbreaking monuments that narrate the shattered hopes and dreams of the young soldiers.
The church also recounts the tragic massacre of the Kanpur Barracks and the betrayal by Nana Sahib, known as "The Butcher of Cawnpore".
