The temple is renowned for its Dravidian architecture and features four towering gopurams (gateway towers), with the eastern tower being the tallest at 66 meters (217 feet). The temple's main deity, Arunachalesvara (Shiva), is represented by the Agni Lingam, symbolizing the element of fire. His consort, Unnamulai Amman, is also venerated here.
The temple is famous for its Karthika Deepam festival, celebrated during the full moon between November and December, where a huge beacon is lit atop the hill, visible from miles around. Additionally, the temple is a major pilgrimage site, with millions of devotees participating in the Girivalam (circumambulation of the hill) annually.
