Tijara Fort
Tijara Fort in Alwar, Rajasthan, is a 19th-century fort-palace initiated in 1835 by Maharaja Balwant Singh in honor of his mother, Moosi Maharani. The fort features three main structures—Mardana Mahal for royal men, Rani Mahal for queens, and Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) designed in a unique blend of Rajput-Afghan architecture with early colonial influences.
The fort remained unfinished due to Maharaja Balwant Singh’s untimely death in 1845. It was built on a hilltop offering panoramic views of the Aravalli hills and surrounding countryside. The surrounding area has historical significance with important cenotaphs reminiscent of Lodi tombs in Delhi, reflecting rich cultural heritage.
In recent years, the fort has been restored and converted into a heritage hotel by the Neemrana Hotels group, preserving its architectural beauty while offering modern luxury accommodations and cultural experiences for visitors.
