The Tomb of Akbar the Great, located in Sikandra near Agra, Uttar Pradesh, is a magnificent example of Mughal architecture built between 1605 and 1613 by his son Jahangir after Akbar's death. The mausoleum sits within a large walled garden and features a combination of red sandstone and white marble. Its design is a blend of Islamic, Hindu, Christian, and Jain architectural styles reflecting Akbar’s policy of religious tolerance.
The tomb is pyramid-shaped with five stories and has a large gateway topped by four graceful white marble minarets. Inside, a false cenotaph with intricate carvings stands on the upper floor, while the actual tomb lies in the basement.
