Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary

Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary in South Tripura, Tripura, covers about 195 square kilometers and was established in 1988 to protect diverse flora and fauna. The sanctuary features tropical semi-evergreen, moist mixed deciduous, and savannah woodland forests. It has numerous perennial water rivulets, water bodies, and grasslands, creating a rich habitat.

The sanctuary is especially known for its sizable population of Indian Gaur (bison) and also protects endangered primates like the Hoolock Gibbon, Golden Langur, and Capped Langur. Other wildlife includes leopards, wild boars, various birds such as pheasants, and several reptiles. The sanctuary is part of the Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspot and plays a key role in ecological balance, supporting medicinal plants and functioning as a wildlife corridor.

It is located approximately 18 km from Belonia and about 100–111 km from Agartala, accessible by state highway. Conservation efforts involve community participation, anti-poaching measures, afforestation, and eco-tourism promotion, making it a crucial site for preservation of biodiversity in Tripura.
